Tragic Train Crash in Spain Leaves 6-Year-Old Girl Orphaned

In the aftermath of a devastating train collision in southern Spain that claimed at least 41 lives, a single story of survival has emerged as a poignant ray of hope. A 6-year-old girl, whose identity has been withheld, walked away from the wreckage with only minor injuries, while her parents, brother, and a cousin were among those killed.

The accident occurred near the town of Adamuz when a train reportedly derailed. The girl was found by a Civil Guard officer near the tracks, having reportedly escaped through a broken window. After receiving medical treatment, including three stitches for a head wound, she was released into the care of her grandparents.

Her family, the Zamorano Álvarezes, were from the village of Punta Umbria, which has declared three days of mourning. The mayor, José Carlos Hernández, referred to the child's survival as "the miracle," stating that while the community grieves, they find some solace in her safety. He expressed confidence that her extended family would ensure she can rebuild a happy life.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation. Spain has begun three official days of national mourning for the victims of one of its deadliest rail disasters in recent years.
