Clergyman Ebuka Obi Sparks Debate After Advising Single Women to Date Multiple Men Before Marriage

Popular clergyman and founder of the Zion Prayer Movement, Ebuka Obi, has ignited widespread reactions online following controversial relationship counsel he offered to single women.

In a recent message, Obi explicitly encouraged unmarried women to entertain multiple suitors simultaneously before settling down. He framed this approach as a practical strategy for discernment, rather than an act of infidelity.

“I’m repeating it again,” he stated. “Date four, five, six guys… You can be studying three of them. There is nothing bad about trying to study three of them to know the one. As you are studying, you are praying to know the one God will choose.”

Obi distinguished this practice from commitment, advising that once a man becomes serious—demonstrated through engagement, meeting family, and clear marital intent—a woman should then focus exclusively on that relationship.

“It is when God has selected… and that one will engage you, you can now say, Kingsley, and this one wait. I cannot dabble into another relationship when I am engaged,” he explained.

His comments have generated heated discussions across social media platforms, with many criticizing the advice as promoting dishonesty and unhealthy relationships. Others, however, have defended his perspective, interpreting it as a pragmatic call for women to carefully evaluate their options before making a lifelong decision.

The debate continues to draw attention to the often conflicting narratives surrounding dating, morality, and marriage within contemporary religious and social contexts.
