An 84-year-old man was successfully rescued by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service on Tuesday after reportedly falling into a deep well in the Aboru area of Lagos.
The incident occurred at 35A Fadeyemi Street, Pipeline, Aboru, within the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area. According to a statement from the agency’s Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, a distress call was received at 10:09 a.m., prompting an immediate dispatch of firefighters from the Abesan station, who arrived at the scene by 10:20 a.m.
The well was estimated to be approximately 140 feet deep. Preliminary observations by responders suggest the incident may have been a suspected suicide attempt, as the well was reportedly covered and secured at the time.
“The victim was successfully recovered by the rescue team and subsequently handed over to his family members for further necessary attention,” the statement read. “The exact cause of the incident is subject to further investigation.”
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reiterated its commitment to timely emergency response and encouraged residents to use official channels to report emergencies swiftly.
