Enugu Police Arraign 42-Year-Old Man for Alleged Rape of 13-Year-Old Girl

The Enugu State Police Command has arraigned a 42-year-old man, Edwin Eze, before a magistrate court for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl in the Mburubu community of Nkanu East Local Government Area.

Eze was brought before Magistrate Chijioke Idu of the Enugu East Magistrate Court on Monday. He faces a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor, an offence punishable under Section 4(1)(a) of the Enugu State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law of 2019.

The alleged incident occurred in November 2025 at Amanato Mburubu community. According to the charge, Eze “did have unlawful carnal knowledge of [the victim], age 13 years, by inserting your penis into her vagina without her consent.”

After reading the charge, the magistrate adjourned the case to February 12 and ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Enugu Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

In response to the case, the Enugu State Government reiterated its zero-tolerance stance toward child abuse and violence against women. Ngozi Enih, Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, stated that the administration of Governor Peter Mbah is committed to prosecuting offenders.

“This is yet another case that demonstrates our resolve to bring every offender to book,” Enih said, adding that the ministry would monitor the case closely to ensure it reaches a logical conclusion.
