An explosion at a crowded bar in the luxury Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana has left several people dead and dozens injured during New Year's Eve celebrations.
The blast occurred around 1:30 a.m. local time at the Le Constellation bar in the Valais region. Police reported over 100 people were inside the venue when the explosion triggered a fire.
Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and air rescue teams, responded in large numbers. The area has been cordoned off and a temporary no-fly zone established to aid rescue operations.
Authorities confirmed "several fatalities and several injured" but have not released an exact death toll as identification efforts continue. The cause of the explosion is currently unknown, with speculation about fireworks remaining unconfirmed.
Crans-Montana is a prominent international tourist destination and is scheduled to host a World Cup speed skiing event later this month.
