Friends of Orphaned Skit Maker 'Sunshine' Appeal for Help to Fund Her Burial

Friends and colleagues of popular content creator Esther Thomas, known online as ‘Sunshine,’ are appealing to the public for financial support to lay her to rest after her sudden passing last week.

Sunshine, an orphan with no immediate family able to bear the costs, died following a series of medical complications. Her friends say her health struggles began in late December with severe abdominal pain, initially diagnosed as a fibroid.

According to her friend Chidera Madu, Sunshine was first taken to Orchid General Hospital but, due to the ongoing nationwide doctors’ strike, received only pain management without a full diagnosis. She was transferred to another facility on January 2 for further treatment.

A Complex Medical Battle

Fellow content creator Dupe Noma explained in a video that Sunshine was ultimately diagnosed with three conditions: an ulcer, a kidney infection, and a fibroid. After successful treatment for the ulcer and infection, she was discharged to prepare for fibroid removal surgery.

“She did the surgery, and according to the doctor, the surgery was successful. They noticed that she wasn’t breathing properly, so they performed CPR on her, and they put her on oxygen, but eventually, she passed,” Noma recounted.

A Plea for Community Support

Noma, alongside friends Madu and Lucy Antem, revealed that Sunshine had only one brother, who is financially unable to arrange her burial. They said the brother has asked her friends to proceed with the funeral arrangements.

“Now the situation at hand is for everyone who has come across Esther Thomas; she’s an orphan, she does not have any family members… the brother is presently incapacitated,” Noma said, appealing for public assistance.

The call for help highlights the vulnerability of many young content creators and the often unseen personal and financial struggles behind their public personas. Sunshine’s friends are now mobilizing online to gather the resources needed to give her a dignified burial.
