LAGOS – A family member of prominent Nollywood actor Femi Adebayo has stepped forward to clarify the circumstances surrounding the eviction of his estranged wife, Omotayo Sanusi (known as Iyan Aladuke), from a Lagos property, stating it was the result of a bank recovery process and not a deliberate act of abandonment.
The eviction recently sparked criticism on social media, with many suggesting Adebayo had mistreated his former partner. However, Mrs. Taiwo Abdulmalik, a relative, explained that the property was acquired through a bank loan which later went into foreclosure.
Bank Foreclosure, Not Personal Eviction
According to Abdulmalik, Sanusi was fully aware of the loan arrangement and had been notified months in advance of the bank’s recovery action.
“She knew Femi bought those properties with a loan and that the bank was coming for recovery,” Abdulmalik stated. “Those properties belong to him alone, and he is still paying heavy principal with interest.”
She emphasized that once the bank initiated the foreclosure, Adebayo ensured Sanusi, her family members, and staff were relocated to a short-term apartment, for which he covered all expenses. He also encouraged her to find a new rental home, promising financial support regardless of cost.
Alleged Gift of Land and Ongoing Child Support
Abdulmalik further disclosed that in 2022, Adebayo purchased a parcel of land beside Sanusi’s shop and registered it in her name as a safeguard. She claimed it was surprising to Adebayo when Sanusi later sold the land after the foreclosure.
Addressing accusations of neglect, Abdulmalik asserted that Adebayo remains a devoted father, providing monthly upkeep and staying actively involved in his son’s life. She noted that last year, he spent approximately **$50,000** on a medical procedure for his son in India.
“He has never stopped taking care of his son… He loves his children dearly,” she said.
Estranged Wife Declines to Comment
When contacted, Omotayo Sanusi declined to address the specific allegations, describing the matter as private.
“It’s a family matter… I have never granted an interview and I don’t think I want to start now. It’s really personal to me,” Sanusi stated. She acknowledged the public discussion but chose not to engage further.
Abdulmalik appealed for public understanding, stressing that the narrative circulating online is incomplete. “No one prays for a broken marriage. It’s unfortunate, but the story being told about him is not the complete truth,” she concluded.
The clarification seeks to reframe the eviction as a financial and legal outcome rather than a personal dispute, highlighting the complex private realities behind public celebrity narratives.
