FCTA Says 10 of 14 Demands Met as Workers’ Strike Continues

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced that it has addressed 10 out of 14 demands made by striking workers, urging an end to the ongoing industrial action.

Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, disclosed in a statement on Monday that significant progress had been made in resolving the issues, including the payment of overdue allowances and wage awards.

According to Olayinka, outstanding hazard and rural allowances for health workers have been fully paid, and the payment of a five-month wage award arrears has commenced. He also confirmed that ₦286.1 million for promotion arrears covering 724 officers was approved in December 2025 and is being processed.

The aide noted that other matters such as tenure extensions for retired officials and concerns over staff training are also being resolved. A joint committee has been set up to address issues related to pension and National Housing Fund remittances.

Olayinka described the ongoing strike as “unnecessary” and “ill-motivated,” pointing out that some unions, including the Association of Resident Doctors, have distanced themselves from the action and even commended the minister’s efforts.

He appealed to security agencies to ensure non-striking workers have unhindered access to their offices while negotiations on the remaining four demands continue.
