FG Signs 30-Year Concession Agreement for Enugu International Airport

The Federal Government has signed a concession agreement for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, marking a major step in its aviation infrastructure renewal plan.

The agreement, signed on Thursday in Abuja by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, grants a 30-year concession to Aero Alliance Limited. The deal includes the airport and its unfinished cargo terminal.

Background and Approval

The Federal Executive Council had approved the full business case for the concession on July 31, 2025. The partnership is aimed at modernizing the airport through private investment, improving operational efficiency, and boosting regional connectivity.

Protection of Workers' Rights

In his remarks, Keyamo emphasized that the rights of aviation workers were prioritized throughout the process. He assured that no staff would be retrenched and that all workers would retain their employment terms with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

“We have fully respected and preserved the rights of aviation workers. They will continue as staff of the federal government and FAAN,” the Minister stated.

Keyamo noted that a few operational details, including security charges and the final financial model, would be resolved in the coming weeks to ensure smooth implementation.

The concession is part of the federal government’s broader strategy to attract private capital into the aviation sector, upgrade infrastructure, and enhance Nigeria's competitiveness in regional air travel.
