Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Daniel, Calls for Unity in Push for Ijebu-Remo State Creation

Senator Gbenga Daniel has announced that the proposal to create a new state from the old Ijebu province in Ogun State is nearing a critical consensus, stressing that unity among the people is the most vital requirement for success.

The former governor of Ogun State, now representing Ogun East Senatorial District, made the statement on Sunday during a political tour in Odogbolu Local Government Area.

Daniel described the push for "Ijebu-Remo State" as the region's "last real hope for accelerated and sustainable development." He revealed that significant groundwork has been completed behind the scenes in the National Assembly but cautioned that the rigorous constitutional process demands a united front from all nine local government areas that made up the old Ijebu province.

“The minimum and most critical requirement to achieve the creation of this state is unity of purpose,” Daniel stated. “If the National Assembly cannot discern that unity among us, we cannot guarantee success. We must unite.”

He also indicated that deliberations on the new state's name and capital are at an advanced stage. “Let me inform you that we are on the verge of reaching a consensus on the name and capital of the state: Ijebu-Remo state,” he said, warning that a failure to decide internally could lead to outsiders making those determinations.

The senator urged the Ijebu and Remo blocs to solidify their cooperation to secure the necessary legislative approval, framing unity as the indispensable key to overcoming the enormous constitutional hurdles for state creation.
