Retired US Air Force General Philip Breedlove, a former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, has revealed that American military forces in the Middle East are on heightened alert as Iran faces significant internal upheaval.
"Our air defenses are going to be at the highest level and the striking force from America is probably alerted right now," Breedlove stated during a Fox News interview, signaling a major ramp-up in readiness.
A Regime Under Pressure
The general's comments came amid a discussion on widespread protests in Iran, driven by a collapsing economy marked by 42% inflation, a devalued currency, and allegations of state corruption. Breedlove described the Iranian regime as historically weak due to this domestic unrest, calling it the most significant public challenge to its authority in recent decades.
Military Posture and Objectives
While emphasizing that current US assets in the region are sufficient to apply pressure, Breedlove noted that additional forces would be needed for any extended campaign. He outlined a dual strategy:
