Afeez Adeshina, the Nigerian Fuji singer popularly known as Destiny Boy, was buried on Friday in his hometown in Ogun State. The final rites took place at his father’s residence in Odo Rori Compound, Ayetoro Yewa.
Destiny Boy passed away on January 17, 2026, after a long-standing illness. The burial ceremony was attended by grieving family members, friends, and fans who paid their last respects to the young musician.
A Somber Farewell
Emotional scenes marked the burial as the singer’s body, conveyed in a white ceremonial vehicle, was carried on a traditional mat to its final resting place. The family described him as a “kind-hearted, humble, and exceptionally hardworking young man” whose passion for music led to several collaborations and a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Health Struggles and Controversy
In a previous statement, his mother, Saidat Adeshina, revealed that his health challenges began two years ago during preparations for the naming ceremony of his first child. The family pursued both medical and traditional treatments in search of a cure.
Following his death, an audio clip circulated online, purportedly featuring his mother cursing him. Both his mother and sister denied the clip’s malicious intent, with Saidat also stating she had received death threats in connection with her son’s passing.
The Ogun State Police Command has since arrested one suspect in relation to the singer’s death, though no further details have been released.
