Ghana Arrests 17 Armed Burkinabè Soldiers Near Border

Ghanaian security forces have detained 17 heavily armed soldiers from Burkina Faso near the border in the Upper West Region.

The soldiers, aged between 20 and 30, were arrested in the Sissala East District after local residents reported they were setting up a combat position using sandbags. Officials seized dozens of military items, including firearms and explosive devices.

During questioning, the men identified themselves as Burkinabè army personnel on routine patrol who had lost their way. They were held for several hours before being released following a directive from national authorities. Their weapons were later returned after a delegation from the Ghanaian embassy in Burkina Faso intervened.

The incident occurred in the Wuru community, an area within the Nazinga Forest range where residents have previously reported sightings of armed groups suspected to be terrorists.
