Google Report: Nigeria Leads Global AI Adoption with 93% Usage Rate

A new report from Google reveals that Nigerians are adopting artificial intelligence (AI) tools at one of the highest rates in the world. Titled “Our Life with AI: Helpfulness in the Hands of More People,” the study found that 93% of Nigerians use AI to learn or understand complex topics, significantly above the global average of 74%.

The survey indicates a rapid increase in AI engagement, with 88% of Nigerian adults having used an AI chatbot—an 18-point rise from 2024 and well above the worldwide average of 62%. Nigerians are applying the technology broadly, from education and professional tasks to exploring new business opportunities.

“It’s inspiring to see how Nigerians are creatively and purposefully using AI to unlock new opportunities for learning, growth, and economic empowerment,” said Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager for West Africa.

Key findings from the report include:

*   91% of Nigerians use AI to support their work.
*   80% apply the technology to explore new careers or business ventures—nearly double the global average.
*   95% believe university students and educators will benefit from AI.
*   Nigerians are notably more optimistic about AI, with 80% feeling excited about its potential, compared to a more divided global outlook.

The report underscores Nigeria’s enthusiastic embrace of AI as a tool for personal and national advancement.
