At least seven youths were killed early Thursday when gunmen attacked a tin mining site in Gakok, Kuru community, located in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims were reportedly engaged in legitimate mining activities when the assailants invaded the site. The Plateau Youth Council (PYC), Jos South Chapter, confirmed the incident in a statement by its Secretary-General, Gyang Sunday Pwajok, describing the attack as another tragic episode in the state’s cycle of violence.

In its statement, the Plateau Youth Council mourned the victims and called on the Kuru Traditional Council, youth groups, and government authorities to restructure mining site unions, improve security coordination, and ban night mining to prevent further attacks.
“These young men were peacefully striving to make ends meet through legitimate mining activities when their lives were brutally cut short,” Pwajok said.

This attack follows a similar incident in December 2025, when gunmen killed at least 12 persons and abducted three others at a mining site in the Fan community of Barkin Ladi LGA, Plateau State.
