The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old hunter, Waheed Rasaki, in connection with the fatal shooting of his colleague, Femi Oyedepo, during a hunting exercise in the Moniya area of Ibadan.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 7, in the Oretan Ijaiye forest within Akinyele Local Government Area.
Police reported that Rasaki turned himself in at the Moniya Police Division, stating that he accidentally shot Oyedepo around 2:00 PM while they were hunting. The victim reportedly slumped and died instantly at the scene.
Officers led by the Divisional Police Officer visited the location, recovered the body, and took Rasaki into custody. An investigation has been launched to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
In Separate Incident, Police Arrest Suspect in Polytechnic Student's Killing
In a related development, the police also arrested one Olatunji Segun for his alleged involvement in the killing of a student of Michael Adeniyi Koleoso Polytechnic in Saki.
Authorities responded to a distress call about a violent clash among students behind the institution on the same day. During the altercation, a student was shot in the back and later died at a private hospital in Saki.
Police recovered an expended cartridge at the scene and took Segun into custody. Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive and identify other parties involved.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, commended officers for their swift response and reassured the public of the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
