“I Am the Only One Left” — Grieving Sister Demands Justice After Brother Killed by Dangote Truck

Olabisi Oyedotun, the sister of a 35-year-old teacher killed by a truck linked to the Dangote Group, has spoken out about the family's loss and their demand for justice.

Her brother, Adedeji Oyedotun, was crushed to death on December 17 in the Meiran area of Lagos while waiting for transport to work. Eyewitnesses reported the truck suffered brake failure and pinned him against a locked health center gate. The driver fled the scene and has not been found.

A Family Shattered

Adedeji, a married father of a one-year-old son, was described as a quiet, responsible man who had recently moved closer to his workplace to ease his commute. His death follows the loss of another sibling in 2019, leaving Olabisi as the only surviving child.

“Out of three children, I am now the only one left,” she said. “My parents are completely shattered… This loss is even more painful because it is not the first time.”

Rejection of Compensation Offer

The family says they were indirectly offered ₦4.5 million as compensation but refused it. “No amount of money can replace a human life,” Olabisi stated. “There was no justice. The driver ran away… and you’re offering ₦4.5 million? It felt insulting.”

They are calling for the driver to be apprehended and for systemic changes in how commercial drivers are trained and supervised. “Companies must be held accountable… This should not happen again, not to anyone.”

The case remains with the police while the family awaits burial arrangements and continues to seek accountability.
