A somber atmosphere filled London on Sunday as family, friends, and members of the boxing community gathered for the funeral of Sina Ghami and Abdul Latif Kevin Ayodele, two close associates of former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
The Janaza (Islamic funeral prayer) was held at the London Central Mosque, followed by Ghami's burial at Hendon Cemetery and Crematorium. A wake for both men was scheduled later at Cavendish Banqueting Hall in Northwest London.
Ghami and Ayodele died in a car crash in Nigeria last Monday while Joshua, who was traveling with them, sustained minor injuries. The boxer, who was in Nigeria for a holiday following his recent victory in Miami, was discharged from a Lagos hospital on New Year’s Eve.
The two men were key figures in Joshua's inner circle, deeply involved in his training and career. Their deaths have cast a shadow over what was meant to be a celebratory period for the British-Nigerian boxer.
Legal Proceedings in Nigeria
In related developments, the driver involved in the crash, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been arraigned in Nigeria on charges including dangerous driving and driving without a valid license. He was granted bail set at ₦5 million and remanded pending fulfilment of bail conditions. The case has been adjourned until January 20.
