Man Reports Being Scammed After Sending Transport Money to Woman He Met Online

A Nigerian man has shared a cautionary tale after an online encounter cost him ₦13,000. The individual, based in Owerri, explained that he initially connected with a woman on TikTok. When she mentioned having no data to chat, he kindly provided her with a data subscription, and they moved their conversation to WhatsApp.

The interaction escalated quickly when he invited her to visit. She agreed but requested transport fare. He sent ₦10,000—exceeding the ₦8,000 she asked for. She later sent a "view-once" video allegedly showing she had reached a motor park, then asked for an additional ₦3,000. After sending the extra funds, all communication ceased.

The story, shared on social media platform X, has drawn reactions from many users. One comment read, "Anytime ‘transport money’ enters the chat, just know you’re in danger," while another remarked that losing ₦13,000 was a relatively cheap lesson compared to the losses others have suffered.

The incident highlights the risks of sending money to individuals met on social media and serves as a warning to others navigating online relationships.
