Manchester United Sack Head Coach Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have dismissed head coach Ruben Amorim after just 14 months in charge, following rising tensions with the club's leadership.

The decision was confirmed after a meeting on Monday morning between Amorim, chief executive Omar Berrada, and director of football Jason Wilcox. The club stated the change was made to give the team "the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish." United currently sit sixth in the Premier League.

Amorim's departure follows a public rift with the hierarchy. After Sunday's 1-1 draw with Leeds, he insisted, "I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach," highlighting frustrations over his role and perceived lack of backing in the transfer market.

Former United midfielder and current U18s coach Darren Fletcher will take interim charge. The team's next match is away to Burnley on Wednesday, live on Sky Sports.
