Military Reports Surrender of 11 Terrorists, Neutralizes 8 in Borno Offensive

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State have recorded significant gains in recent counterterrorism operations, with 11 Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters surrendering and eight others neutralized during intensified military offensives.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, the surrenders occurred along the Azir-Wajiroko axis following sustained military pressure under Operation Desert Sanity V. The fighters reportedly gave up their weapons, including AK-47 rifles and ammunition.

In related operations on January 9, troops conducted clearance missions in the Bulaagalda area, destroying terrorist camps in Dagumba, Bonne, Yaganari, Gosuri, and Umchile—including hideouts linked to commanders Abu Nazir and Abu Ahmed. The military also recovered weapons, terrorist flags, and dismantled logistics facilities.

Additionally, troops engaged insurgents between Sojiri and Kayamla villages, killing eight terrorists and seizing more firearms. Two suspected logistics suppliers were also arrested in Gubio Local Government Area.

Lieutenant Colonel Uba reiterated the military’s commitment to sustaining offensive operations and restoring peace across the Northeast.

In a separate but concerning development, residents of Kasuwan Daji in Niger State reported fresh sightings of armed bandits on Sunday, sparking fears of another attack. This comes days after a deadly assault on the local market left dozens dead and several abducted. Community sources have urged security agencies to heighten vigilance in the area.
