The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out a targeted airstrike on a terrorist camp and logistics base in the Abbaga Jiri area of Borno State, northeastern Nigeria.
The operation, conducted on Thursday, January 8, 2026, under the ongoing military campaign Operation Hadin Kai, was based on verified intelligence indicating that insurgents were actively using the location as a hub for planning attacks and storing supplies. The area lies within the volatile Timbuktu Triangle, a known hotspot for militant activity.
NAF fighter jets used precision-guided munitions to strike the identified targets, aiming to degrade the terrorists' operational capabilities and pave the way for ground troops to advance safely into the area. The Air Force emphasized that the mission was carefully executed to avoid civilian casualties.
Following the aerial bombardment, ground forces moved in to assess the damage and confirmed that several terrorist structures were destroyed and a number of fighters were neutralized.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, a spokesperson for the NAF, stated that such strikes are crucial for disrupting the ability of terrorist groups to regroup and launch further attacks.
The coordinated air and ground operation reflects the Nigerian military's continued push to dismantle insurgent networks and restore security in the troubled northeast region.
