The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, has paid a special visit to 106-year-old World War II veteran, Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Wesley Tafida, in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The visit honored RSM Tafida for his service as a military courier transporting arms and ammunition during World War II (1944–1945). During the meeting, the veteran shared that he was discharged from the 93 Mechanised Infantry Battalion in Ojo Cantonment after seven years of service as an RSM.
Brigadier General Uwa commended Tafida’s legacy and reiterated the Nigerian Army's commitment to honoring its veterans, pursuing operational excellence, and ensuring lasting peace and security in Taraba State. The commander expressed confidence in the military’s capacity to overcome contemporary security threats.
In a related development, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Richard Pheelangwa, praised Uwa’s leadership and the professionalism of 6 Brigade personnel during a separate courtesy visit. He highlighted that the formation’s efforts have restored public confidence and strengthened civil-military cooperation in the state.
Brigadier General Uwa thanked Pheelangwa for the visit and reaffirmed the loyalty and dedication of his officers and soldiers to their constitutional duties.
