Nigerian Senator, Godiya Akwashiki, Dies at 52

Senator Godiya Akwashiki, a two-term lawmaker representing Nasarawa North, has passed away at the age of 52.

Family sources confirmed he died on December 31, 2025, in a hospital in India, where he had been receiving treatment for a prolonged illness.

Political Career

First elected to the Senate in 2019, Akwashiki was re-elected for a second term, making him the first senator from his district to achieve consecutive terms since the creation of Nasarawa State. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), he had previously served in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, rising to the positions of Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker.

Known for his strong grassroots connection, Akwashiki was recognized for prioritizing constituency projects focused on rural development, education, and youth empowerment.
