Private Jet Crashes at Bangor Airport Amid Severe Winter Storm

A Bombardier Challenger 600 business jet crashed on Sunday night, January 25, 2026, while attempting to take off from Bangor International Airport in Maine during a powerful winter storm affecting the northeastern United States.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft, carrying eight people, went down around 7:45 p.m. local time, flipped inverted on the runway, and caught fire shortly after departing.

Federal authorities reported that seven people on board were killed and one crew member survived with serious injuries, though local officials are continuing to verify the exact number of victims.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA have both launched investigations into the crash. Preliminary findings suggest the jet crashed during departure and experienced a post-crash fire, but federal officials say they will withhold further details until investigators reach the site — a process delayed by the ongoing storm conditions.

Bangor International Airport — one of Maine’s major air hubs — was closed temporarily following the accident as emergency crews secured the scene. The adverse winter conditions that swept much of the U.S. over the weekend — including snow, sleet, and freezing rain — disrupted many flights and complicated response efforts.

*This remains a developing story as authorities continue to piece together the causes of the accident and identify those involved.*
