Prominent Plateau Politician Mwadkwon Switches to APC, Eyes Senate Return

Jos, Plateau State – In a significant political realignment, former Senate Minority Leader Simon Mwadkwon has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former senator, who represented Plateau North, made the announcement on Thursday during a meeting with APC elders in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

“I am here to formally announce my entry into the APC and to seek the counsel of party elders at the grassroots,” Mwadkwon stated.

A Move for "Strategic Realignment"

He explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with constituents, stakeholders, family, and associates. The defection, he said, is aimed at fostering better collaboration and ensuring stronger representation for his constituents at the national level.

“This realignment is driven by the desire to work more effectively with leaders who share a commitment to improving governance,” he added.

Mwadkwon also revealed his intention to contest the Plateau North senatorial seat on the APC ticket in the 2027 general elections, framing his move as part of an effort to help build the party’s structure in Plateau State.

APC Welcomes New Member

Solomon Bature, Chairman of the APC Elders’ Council in Barkin Ladi, welcomed Mwadkwon into the party, emphasizing that the APC remains open to all Nigerians who align with its principles.

Mwadkwon was elected to the Senate in 2023 under the PDP, but his victory was later nullified by the Court of Appeal, which ordered a rerun.
