A Nigerian man has sparked intense reactions online after directly accusing a traditional priest, known as Ifayemi, of responsibility in the sudden death of popular Afrofuji musician Destiny Boy.
In a widely circulated statement, the man expressed disbelief over the singer’s passing and claimed the spiritualist administered rituals that were too potent for the young artist’s age and constitution.
“Ifayemi, I have not accepted that Destiny Boy is dead. If it is true, then you are the one who killed him. What you gave him was too much,” the man asserted.
He challenged widespread speculation linking Destiny Boy’s recent consultation for Ifa—a traditional spiritual practice—to money rituals. According to him, Ifa and money rituals are entirely separate, with the former intended for spiritual cleansing, not wealth acquisition.
“They said he only did *Ifa*, and shortly after, he went to buy a car worth over ₦30 million. But Ifa does not make one rich. It washes away family curses; it doesn’t bring money. If you want money, that’s when they perform rituals for you—and what you ask for is what they do.”
He further suggested that Destiny Boy may have undergone a ritual meant for someone older, leading to fatal consequences. “These days, youth deaths are becoming common because what *babalawos* are giving young people is too much for their age.”
The man, who identified his own father as a babalawo, explained that ethical priests consider age before performing money-related rituals to avoid invoking *Ajonu*—a severe spiritual backlash that can cause untimely death.
“If you are in your 20s or 30s, a responsible *babalawo* will refuse because the consequence is often fatal. Many now die in accidents—but this one died drying up alive.”
He ended emotionally, recalling that Destiny Boy had reached out to him just the night before his death to discuss promoting a new album. “I told him we should talk this morning—and now he is gone. Me, I have not accepted that this boy is dead.”
Destiny Boy, whose real name is Taofeek Babatunde Adegboyega, was a fast-rising Fuji singer. Reports confirm he died on Friday, January 16, 2026, after a sudden illness. Some sources suggest he suffered from a high fever and dehydration shortly after performing a spiritual rite.
The public accusation has reignited debates on the dangers of spiritual consultations, ritual practices, and the growing trend of youth engaging in high-risk spiritual pursuits for quick success.
