Tinubu Hails Military Operations, Says Sustained Offensive is Yielding Tangible Security Gains

President Bola Tinubu has commended the nation's armed forces, stating that sustained military operations against terrorist and criminal networks are now producing measurable improvements in security across Nigeria.

Speaking through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day Gala in Abuja on Tuesday, the President noted that areas once plagued by fear are experiencing relative calm due to consistent operational pressure and enhanced inter-agency coordination.

“Areas that were previously gripped by fear are now experiencing relative calm due to consistent operational pressure and improved coordination among security agencies,” Tinubu stated. He also highlighted the role of collaboration with regional and international partners in restoring public confidence and stabilizing affected communities.

The President praised the sacrifices of military personnel—both fallen and serving—as the bedrock of Nigeria’s peace, unity, and democracy. He emphasized that honoring fallen heroes is a lasting national duty that should extend beyond ceremonial activities.

Honoring Service and Announcing New Initiatives

Tinubu acknowledged the crucial support of military families and announced two new public engagement platforms aimed at fostering appreciation for the armed forces. These include the ‘Thank-a-Soldier Electronic Wall,’ a digital space for citizens to post messages of gratitude, and the ‘My Nigerian Hero Campaign,’ a year-long social media initiative to honor serving and retired personnel.

The President reiterated that security remains the top priority of his administration, pledging continued investment in equipment, training, and troop welfare while urging discipline, unity, and constitutional loyalty within the ranks.

Awards and Recognition

The event featured the presentation of awards to several serving and retired officers in recognition of their service. Among the honorees were Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, former Army Chief Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (retd), and former Army Spokesman Brigadier General Sani Usman (retd).

Minister of Defence Christopher Musa also spoke at the event, stating that the courage and sacrifices of military personnel are central to Nigeria’s freedom and sovereignty, with the awards reflecting stories of bravery and quiet dedication.

The ceremony underscored the administration’s ongoing efforts to boost morale within the security forces and reassure the public of its commitment to tackling the nation's security challenges.
