The Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized 2,366 packs of cannabis indica valued at over ₦4.7 billion and handed them over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The drugs were discovered inside a 40-foot container during a joint examination with NDLEA and Department of State Services operatives on January 28. The container held 55 jumbo bags of cannabis indica and also concealed a Colt MK IV .45 calibre pistol with an empty magazine. Three used vehicles—a Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Sienna, and Toyota Matrix—were used to hide the illicit items.
Customs Area Controller Comptroller Frank Onyeka stated that the seizure was part of routine intelligence-led operations and that one suspect had been apprehended. He warned that the service would not tolerate drug smuggling or transnational crimes threatening national security.
NDLEA Commander Solomon Omotoso, who received the consignment, praised the inter-agency collaboration and assured that investigations and prosecution would follow in accordance with the law.
