NBC "Today" show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie has made a public, tearful appeal to the kidnappers of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, pleading for proof that she is alive and receiving needed medication.
In a video posted online, Guthrie, flanked by family members, directly addressed the abductors, stating, "We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her." She emphasized her mother's fragile health and need for medicine, saying, "She lives in constant pain... she needs it to survive."
The 84-year-old was reported missing from her home in Pima County, Arizona, after failing to attend church on Sunday. Local Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed the home is a "crime scene" and that she "did not leave on her own."
President Donald Trump responded on social media, stating he spoke with Savannah Guthrie and is directing all federal law enforcement resources to assist in the safe return of her mother.
The family has acknowledged reports of a ransom letter and says they are working to do "everything that we can." The investigation is ongoing.
