Father Alleges Negligence and Cover-Up After Son’s Death at Lagos Hotel Pool Party

The father of a young man who drowned during a pool party at a Lagos hotel has accused the management of indifference and attempted cover-up, citing that festivities continued even after his son’s body was discovered.

Mattias Airenekhuemen was found dead in the swimming pool of Signatious Hotel during a party. His father, Henry Airenekhuemen, expressed deep distress not only over the unexplained circumstances of the drowning but also over the hotel’s response to the tragedy.

Henry revealed that the pool party was not stopped after his son’s body was recovered. “The pool party went on that night despite the fact that my son was found dead in the swimming pool,” he stated, describing the decision as irresponsible and disrespectful.

The family’s suspicion deepened when another son received a call from someone claiming to be a hotel staff member, who asked what it would take to financially “settle the whole issue.” This offer, coupled with the decision to continue the event, has led the family to believe there may be an effort to avoid accountability.

Police have detained three individuals for questioning, but the investigation faces challenges. The hotel’s manager claimed to be newly employed and unable to provide CCTV footage, and the facility appeared to be operating with limited capacity.

The family continues to seek answers and justice amid what they perceive as a lack of transparency from the hotel management.
