Four Gospel Artists Found Dead in Lagos Music Studio After Overnight Stay

Four individuals, including a gospel musician and a blogger, were discovered dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State.

The deceased have been identified as gospel artist Matthew Ogundele, Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and blogger Matthew Awosanya, popularly known as JoesTv. They had been invited to perform on Tuesday night during a three-day birthday praise event organized by fellow gospel artist Olanireti Akinbola.

According to a police source, the artists performed late into the night and, due to the late hour and distance to their homes, decided to sleep in the studio. They were found unresponsive the following morning.

The studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola—husband of the celebrant—reported the incident to the Ajiwe Police Station on Wednesday. He stated that he had left the artists in the studio after providing them with food on Tuesday night. Upon returning around 11 a.m. the next day, he found the studio locked from the inside. After forcing entry, the four were found lifeless.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident. She noted that crime scene investigators documented the location and found no visible signs of violence on the bodies. The victims were observed to have traces of blood around their noses, mouths, and ears.

The bodies have been moved to Mainland Hospital, Yaba, where a doctor confirmed their death. They are currently held at the morgue pending an autopsy.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, for a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

Friends, colleagues, and social media users have expressed shock and are calling for a transparent investigation into the tragic event.
