IPOB Officially Cancels Monday Sit-At-Home Order in Southeast

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the permanent cancellation of its Monday sit-at-home order across the Southeast, effective Monday, February 9, 2026.

In a statement issued on Sunday by spokesperson Emma Powerful, the group declared that the directive came directly from its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

“There is now no need, excuse or justification for anyone to stay at home on Mondays. All markets, schools, offices, transport services and economic activities must resume fully and normally from tomorrow,” the statement read.

The sit-at-home protest was initially declared in August 2021 to protest Kanu's arrest and detention. The order had repeatedly shut down economic and social activities across the region every Monday.

IPOB warned that any individual or group attempting to enforce the suspended sit-at-home would be considered an enemy of the people and confronted. It also cautioned state governors against intimidating traders or forcibly shutting markets.

The group urged residents to resume normal activities without fear, stating, “The era of Monday sit-at-home is over.”
