Cultists Kill Community Leader in Revenge Attack in Anambra

Gunmen suspected to be cultists killed the President General of Ogidi community in Anambra State, Chief Ikwuka Okoye, and one other person in a violent attack on Friday evening, February 6, 2026.

The assault has been linked to the recent death of a notorious cultist and serial killer, Emma Amasco, a member of the Neo-Black Movement (NBM), also known as Aye. Amasco was arrested earlier in the week after allegedly stealing phones worth millions of naira in Onitsha.

Before his death, Amasco reportedly confessed to having killed 48 people, stating that 17 of those murders took place in Ogidi. His capture and subsequent death were attributed to local security efforts, with community leaders, including the late President General, seeking to expel cultism from the town.

In retaliation for Amasco’s death, armed NBM members invaded Ogidi on Friday, targeting and killing Chief Ikwuka Okoye, who was not a cultist but was accused by the group of involvement in the arrest.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga stated that authorities are working on eyewitness accounts and intelligence to apprehend the perpetrators, urging calm and cooperation from the public.
