Joint Security Forces Arrest Six Suspected Kidnappers in Edo Forest Raid

A coordinated night raid by security forces in Edo State has led to the arrest of six suspected kidnappers at a forest camp in Agbede, Etsako East Local Government Area.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, was conducted by a joint team comprising the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Edo State Security Corps, and local hunters.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Eno Ikoedem, the raid followed crucial intelligence provided by a former kidnap victim who identified the exact location in Agbede Forest where he had been held. Acting on this tip, Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika led the team deep into the forest, traveling for approximately three hours by vehicle before proceeding on foot through dense terrain.

The camp was cordoned off around 3:45 a.m., resulting in the arrest of the suspects, who hail from Benue, Kano, and Kogi States. Those detained include Mikel Gendaga (41), Yusuf Abubakar (34), Isyaka Abraham (30), Isyaka Abubakar (37), Mohammed Sumo (20), and Mohammed Abubakar (25).

All six suspects are currently being profiled and investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Benin, with prosecution to follow.

Commissioner Agbonika commended the operatives for their collaboration and bravery, warning that forests in Edo will no longer serve as safe havens for criminals. He urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies, affirming that intelligence-led operations will continue to protect lives and property across the state.
