Worshippers who were abducted from a church service in Kurmin Wali town, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have been released, a community leader confirmed on Friday.
The victims were taken on January 18, 2026, when armed men attacked the church during service. According to the anonymous source, their release occurred late on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
“Between about 11 p.m. and midnight, we learned that large vehicles entered the forest, and later, around 1 a.m. to 2 a.m., they emerged with the abducted persons from the Maro axis,” the community leader stated. “We do not know who secured their release or if everyone has been freed, but their return has been confirmed.”
Details surrounding the release—including whether a ransom was paid or a security operation was conducted—remain unclear. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
