Police in Ekiti State have begun an investigation after a middle-aged man, identified as Segun, was found dead, having hanged himself on a tree in Ise Ekiti.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday. According to sources, the man first attempted to slit the throat of his 12-year-old daughter before taking his own life behind their residence.
A resident, Mr. Patrick Abayomi, confirmed that neighbors were alerted by noise and discovered the scene. The injured girl was rushed to a local hospital and is reportedly responding to treatment.
Another source, who spoke anonymously, suggested the man’s actions may have been driven by a loss of sanity. “I want to believe he attempted a taboo with the daughter, which made him try to kill her and later take his own life,” the source said.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti, Superintendent Sunday Abutu, stated that the Commissioner of Police has directed a thorough investigation into the incident.
