Nigeria’s active telephone subscriptions climbed to 179.64 million by the end of December 2025, according to the latest data released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The figure represents an increase from 177.43 million recorded in November.
The growth pushed the country’s teledensity—a measure of active telephone connections per 100 people—to 82.87%. Teledensity is widely used to gauge telecommunications penetration, infrastructure development, and economic activity, and can highlight gaps between urban and rural access.
Market share figures show MTN Nigeria remains the industry leader with 93 million subscribers, accounting for 51.87% of the total market. The continued rise in subscriptions reflects sustained growth in mobile usage and increasing demand for data services across the country.
