A senior officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was killed during a raid on a major drug enclave in Bonny Island, Rivers State.
The incident occurred on February 6, 2026, when NDLEA operatives stormed the notorious Ama Hausa drug hub. The operation turned violent as suspected drug dealers allegedly mobilized armed hoodlums to resist arrest.
During the confrontation, Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid sustained severe head injuries. He was rushed to the Bonny Island General Hospital but later died from his wounds.
Despite the attack, the NDLEA team overpowered the assailants and completed the operation. Six suspects were arrested, including the alleged gang leader, Genesis George Benson. A significant quantity of illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol, was recovered from the scene.
The Chairman of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), commended the operatives for their courage and condemned the attack. “Any attack on our officers is an attack on the state, and it will not go without dire consequences. We remain undeterred in our mission to rid Nigeria of illicit drugs,” Marwa stated.
He extended condolences to the family of the fallen officer and reaffirmed the agency's commitment to targeting drug networks across the country.
