The Ondo State Police Command has arrested and arraigned a suspected serial rapist, Olamipekun Elegbeleye, for multiple sexual assaults and armed robberies in Akure.
According to a statement released by police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh, the suspect was apprehended following investigations into an attack on November 21, 2025, when he allegedly lured a woman onto his motorcycle with the promise of taking her to the Afunbiowo Estate area, only to divert into a bush, rape her at gunpoint, and steal her belongings.
Further investigations revealed Elegbeleye had used the same method to attack at least four other women in the same location.
Police tracked the suspect to his hideout using credible intelligence and technical means. Items recovered from him included two mobile phones, two SIM cards, a shirt, and ATM cards belonging to his victims. Investigators also found that he had illegally transferred money from one victim’s bank account.
The suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes and has been charged to court and remanded at the Ondo State Correctional Centre in Akure.
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling sexual and violent crimes and ensuring offenders are brought to justice. The command also acknowledged the support of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun in enhancing intelligence-led operations.
