Iran Condemns Israeli Airstrikes in Lebanon as War Crimes

Iran has formally accused Israel of committing war crimes and violating international law following a series of airstrikes in southern Lebanon. The allegation, issued by Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei on Sunday, February 1, 2026, asserts that Israeli attacks deliberately targeted civilian areas, residential homes, and critical public infrastructure.

In a statement carried by the Iran News Agency, Baqaei framed the strikes not as an isolated event, but as part of what he described as a “systemic pattern of aggression” that risks escalating conflict across the region. He further characterized Israel’s ongoing military operations in Palestine as a breach of the United Nations Charter and labeled the recent actions clear examples of war crimes.

Baqaei extended condolences to families of victims and reaffirmed Iran’s solidarity with Lebanon. He emphasized that the attacks represent a continuation of ceasefire violations over the past 15 months and warned that the cycle of violence places legal and political responsibility not only on Israel, but also on international actors who helped broker earlier truces.

The spokesperson urged the international community—particularly influential nations in the Middle East—to fulfill their obligations in restraining further aggression and ensuring accountability. His remarks reflect growing frustration among some governments with what they perceive as ineffective global institutions and inconsistent enforcement of international law.
