Hospital Denies Negligence in Singer's Death After Snake Bite

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abuja has responded to allegations of negligence following the death of 26-year-old singer Ifunanya Nwagene, who passed away on Saturday after being bitten by a snake.

In a statement released on Sunday, the hospital explained that medical personnel provided immediate treatment, including resuscitation, intravenous fluids, oxygen, and polyvalent antivenom. However, the patient developed severe neurotoxic complications and deteriorated suddenly before she could be moved to intensive care.

Nwagene, a soprano with the Amemuso Choir known as Nanyah, was described by the choir as a "rising star on the cusp of wider recognition." The group announced her death on social media, calling it a major loss to Abuja's music scene.

The FMC's management denied social media claims that antivenom was unavailable or that the response was inadequate, calling such reports "unfounded." They reiterated their commitment to transparency and quality care, extending condolences to Nwagene's family.

The hospital urged the public to rely on verified information and stated they remain open to further inquiries.
