President Tinubu Orders Military Deployment After Deadly Kwara Attack

President Bola Tinubu has authorized the immediate deployment of a military battalion to Kwara State following a terrorist attack that killed at least 75 people. The assault targeted the Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area late Tuesday.

The new security initiative, named Operation Savannah Shield, aims to restore order and prevent further violence in the region. Bayo Onanuga, the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, confirmed the deployment in a public statement.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who visited the attacked communities, stated the victims were local Muslims killed for refusing to adopt an extremist doctrine. He condemned the massacre as an act of cowardice by terrorists frustrated by ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

This attack is among the deadliest in Kwara State this year and has raised concerns about the southward spread of violence from Nigeria's more volatile northwestern regions, where banditry and extremism are prevalent.
