Nigerian singer and songwriter Tems has reached a significant milestone, matching Afro-fusion star Burna Boy for the most Billboard Hot 100 entries by a Nigerian artist.
The Grammy-winning artist secured her seventh career entry on the prestigious U.S. chart this week as her single ‘What You Need’ debuted at Number 93.
This achievement ties her with Burna Boy, who also has seven entries, and makes Tems the first Nigerian female artist to reach this mark.
Tems's previous Hot 100 entries include global hits such as ‘Wait For U’ (with Future and Drake), ‘Essence’ (Remix) with Wizkid and Justin Bieber, ‘Fountains’ with Drake, ‘Move’ featuring Grace Jones, ‘Free Mind’, and ‘Raindance’.
The current leaderboard for Nigerian acts on the Billboard Hot 100 is now led jointly by Tems and Burna Boy (7 entries), followed by Wizkid (5 entries), Rema (2 entries), with Davido, Fireboy DML, CKay, and Lojay each having one entry.
Born Temilade Openiyi, Tems rose to international prominence in 2020 following her collaboration with Wizkid on the hit song ‘Essence’. She has since cemented her status as a leading global voice from Africa.
Her accolades include a Grammy Award in 2023 for her contribution to Future’s ‘Wait For U’ and a second Grammy in 2025 for Best African Performance. In July 2025, she also made history as the first African artist to perform at a Club World Cup final.
