Two Ondo University Students Drown in Hotel Swimming Pool During Matriculation Party

Two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, have drowned in a hotel swimming pool during an event for newly matriculated students.

The victims have been identified as Oludere Opeyemi, 22, and Adegbola Blessing, 19. According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred on the evening of January 29 at a local hotel.

Jimoh stated that Adegbola Blessing was first found unconscious in the pool around 8:00 p.m. He was rescued by the pool manager, revived through first aid, and was later taken home by friends in an apparent stable condition.

Shortly afterward, Oludere Opeyemi was also discovered unconscious in the same pool. He was rushed to the State Hospital in Ikare-Akoko, where he was pronounced dead.

Tragically, the following morning, Adegbola Blessing was also reported to have passed away.

Police have launched an investigation and have questioned the hotel manager and pool manager. The bodies of both students have been deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital, Ikare-Akoko, for autopsy.
