United States Condemns "Horrific" Kwara Attack, Voices Support for Nigerian Government's Response

The United States has issued a strong condemnation of the brutal terrorist attack on communities in Kwara State, expressing solidarity with Nigeria and backing President Bola Tinubu’s security mobilization in the wake of the assault.

In an official statement posted to the social media platform Facebook on Friday, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria described the Tuesday attack on Nuku and Woro villages as “horrific.” The post extended condolences to the families of the victims and the affected communities.

“The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara state in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people, with the death toll still unconfirmed and many still unaccounted for,” the statement read.

The assault, attributed to Boko Haram extremists, represents one of the deadliest incidents in Kwara State this year and has raised significant concerns about the southward spread of violence from Nigeria’s volatile northeast. Local officials reported that the terrorists targeted villagers who had resisted their extremist ideology.

In response to the attack, President Tinubu ordered the immediate deployment of a military battalion to the region and launched “Operation Savannah Shield,” a new security initiative aimed at restoring order and preventing further incursions.

The U.S. statement signifies international support for the Nigerian government’s efforts to combat terrorism and stabilize the region. It also underscores growing global attention to the expanding threat of insurgent violence in areas previously considered less vulnerable.

As search and recovery operations continue, authorities are working to ascertain the final death toll and account for missing persons, while security forces remain on high alert across the state.
