Netanyahu Calls for Protection of Christians in Nigeria

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has emphasized the need to protect Christian communities in Nigeria and other regions where they face persecution. He made the statement during a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida on Monday, where discussions included regional security and border stability.

Netanyahu stated that the protection of minorities, particularly Christians, is a shared priority. “I think not only the Jews, but other minorities, especially the Christians, should be protected as well, in Syria and throughout the Middle East, and in Nigeria,” he said. He described Christian communities worldwide as “beleaguered” and affirmed Israel’s support for initiatives aimed at ensuring their safety and freedom of worship.

His comments follow a earlier Christmas message in which he condemned violence against Christians in Nigeria and called for an end to attacks targeting the community. Netanyahu contrasted the situation in several Middle Eastern and African countries with that of Israel, where he noted Christians can practise their faith freely.

The Israeli leader also pointed to declining Christian populations in areas such as Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Bethlehem as evidence of the pressures faced by religious minorities in conflict-affected regions.
