Russia Calls for Restraint as Israel Threatens Iran with Military Strikes

Russia has issued a warning against further military escalation in the Middle East following renewed threats by Israel to carry out strikes against Iran. The Russian Foreign Ministry cautioned that such actions could trigger a dangerous new spiral of violence in the region.

On Tuesday, spokesperson Maria Zakharova urged what she termed “reckless” parties to step back from confrontation. She stressed that rising tensions over Iran’s nuclear program threaten to undo years of diplomatic and technical progress. Zakharova pointed to the exchange of strikes between Israel and Iran in June as a “deadly mistake” that undermined verification efforts by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and weakened global non-proliferation mechanisms.

In those June attacks, Israel struck several Iranian military and nuclear sites, including the Natanz enrichment facility. Iran responded with missile launches against Israeli positions in an operation it called “True Promise 3.”

Moscow has consistently opposed unilateral military action against Iran, arguing that force only deepens instability and erodes trust in international institutions. Russian officials maintain that diplomacy and adherence to existing agreements are the only viable path to address concerns over Iran's nuclear activities.

Zakharova warned that ignoring recent history could have grave consequences, potentially affecting global security and diplomatic relations far beyond the Middle East.
