Woman Mourns Son Killed by Gunman on Christmas Day

A family’s Christmas celebration in Delta State ended in tragedy when 32-year-old Amauche Ezeji was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant on December 25th.

The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. along Askaka Road in Kwale, a typically busy area during the festive season. Amauche had traveled to spend the holiday with extended family and had just taken his pregnant wife to his grandmother's home for a joint celebration.

According to his mother, Mrs. Chinyere Emeagi, the evening turned when her son received a phone call. After answering, he stepped out, assuring the family he would return shortly. That was the last time they saw him alive.

"Christmas Day, a season meant for joy, laughter and family togetherness, became the darkest day of my life," Mrs. Emeagi said. "Instead of celebrating, I watched as my 32-year-old only child was snatched from me.

Family members later learned Amauche had been attacked and shot. He was rushed for medical help but was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Local residents reported hearing gunshots but were too fearful to investigate immediately.

Mrs. Emeagi described her son as a devoted husband and her primary source of support, who was eagerly anticipating fatherhood. The sudden loss has left the family in profound shock, struggling to comprehend how a festive visit ended in violence.

The killing has stirred fear within the community. As the family makes burial arrangements, they are also seeking justice, with efforts to identify and apprehend the gunman ongoing.
