FALA 2025: Former Kenyan President Kenyatta Praises Youth as Africa's "Greatest Resource"

At the Future Africa Leaders Awards (FALA) 2025 ceremony in Lagos, former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta declared Africa's youth to be the continent's most valuable asset, calling on them to drive transformation through courageous and principled leadership.

Speaking at the event hosted by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Kenyatta shifted focus from mineral wealth to human potential. “Our greatest resource is within the minds and hearts of our young people,” he stated. “You are not leaders of tomorrow; you are leaders of today who are shaping tomorrow.”

He commended the award recipients for choosing “service over self” and emphasized that leadership is defined by tangible transformation, not titles. Kenyatta also praised Pastor Oyakhilome’s Future Africa Leaders Foundation for nurturing purpose-driven young leaders and acknowledged former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo for his mentorship.

In a closing New Year’s message, Kenyatta expressed hope for an Africa built by its own people, united and guided by service-oriented leadership.
